Green Team

A Green Summer

Picture
The St. Christopher's Episcopal Church Giving Garden has now donated over 500 pounds of fresh produce to the Keystone Community Food Shelf this year. Thanks to all at St. Christopher's that have made this ministry a success!

The Green Team meets monthly, at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday, in the Parish Hall, to discuss and explore new ways to reduce waste, recycle materials and become more energy efficient as a faith community. If you have any thoughts about how we at St. Christopher's can become even better stewards of our earth, please come to a meeting or let a member of the Green Team know.

You are invited to join the Green Team. Members include Joel Norton, Larry Jones, Jean Crow, Allison Jensen, Karen Hartman, Becky Lucas and Robin Monahan.

Here is a link to see, in real time, how much electricity is being produced by our Solar Panels:

God's creation is God's  gift to us.

Our mission is to advocate for and practice protection of the environment (our home), to preserve God's creation for future generations.

The Green Team has been involved in  number of different projects including:

  • Solar Array Completed and producing electricity:  The solar array was activated in April 2016 and has been producing electrical power.
  • Giving Garden:  Our newly designed garden is producing food.  Over 700 lbs of vegetables were delivered to the Keystone Food Shelf in 2020.   Take a look at the beautiful finished garden and solar panels on the roof above.
  • Earth Day:  An Earth Day celebration service and presentation by the Green Team was completed.  Parishioners enjoyed healthy treats of yogurts, fresh fruits and gluten free baked items.
  • Recycling Bins: Recycling bins are available throughout the church.
  • Adopt a Highway:  Green Team members and friends participated in a trash clean up around the church property and Hamline Ave., covering a mile total.   Many garbage bags of trash were collected for pickup by the city.
  • Christmas Light Recycling:  Many bins of old Christmas lights were collected at St. Christopher's.  These lights were recycled by adults with disabilities at local vocational centers.
  • e-Traveler Messages:  Green Team members have contributed relevant green issues to the e-traveler on a monthly basis.
  •  LED Lighting installed:  A room by room audit of lighting and energy use was completed.  Energy efficient LED lights have been installed.  We are monitoring St. Christopher's electric bill to evaluate overall cost savings for the church.

The Green Team meets on the second Wednesday of the month, 7 pm Parish Hall.  Please free to Join us!
